An Edinburgh charity made famous by visiting Royals and celebrities has been announced as the very first space to be revealed as ‘Passing GO’ on the brand new MONOPOLY edition for the city.
Social Bite – whose mission is to “end homelessness in Scotland” – was set up on Rose Street in the heart of Edinburgh city centre in 2012. Since then it has received a number of very high profile visits from several Hollywood A List celebs and leading Royals.
The charity donates all of its profits to the homeless and recently opened a ground-breaking village for homeless people on Granton’s waterfront.
Social Bite is the first of three Edinburgh based charities that will get to star on the board on their very own unique space. It follows a public poll held last month, which attracted more than 2,000 votes. Social Bite topped the poll and the two other winning charities will be announced later in the year.
A delighted Josh Littlejohn MBE – co-founder of Social Bite – said: “A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us. MONOPOLY has been my favourite game since I was a kid and we are thrilled to be featuring on this great new board.
“Over the last few years we have worked extensively with the homeless community and the charities profile has undoubtedly been raised by the visits of Hollywood A listers and Royalty. We are really grateful to be included on the board.”
Winning Moves UK, the makers of the new edition – under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro – extended their congratulations too.
“A very big congratulations to Social Bite who ran a great campaign – and many thanks to everyone who voted,” said Benjamin Thompson, Custom Games Manager at Winning Moves UK. “The charity will feature on a Community Chest space – we feel this is an appropriate position on the board, with Social Bite being such a very big part of theEdinburgh community.”
Edinburgh landmarks like Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile, the Scott Monument and the Scottish Parliament are set to appear on the property spaces made famous in the original London game. And for the very first time ever in Scotland the tokens will be bespoke, with reports a miniature castle and a panda or penguin will appear.
“This unique official edition will feature and star the great and the good of Edinburgh – and be a love letter to Scotland’s most visited city,” added Mr Thompson.
