Just Eat, a leading global marketplace for online food delivery, has reached 400 million orders in the UK, only 11 months after hitting 300 million. Just Eat processed, on average, three orders per second in the UK in the last 12 months, thanks to its 10.5 million customers, which are helping driving the UK’s online food revolution. Today it has rewarded the customer who made the 400 millionth order with a free flight to America.
Gabriella Hicks, a mum of three from Edinburgh, unknowingly placed Just Eat’s 400 millionth order after opting for a takeaway cheeseburger from local restaurant Sugar & Spice Grill House on Colinton’s Main Drive. Just Eat surprised the lucky customer with a flight to America – paying homage to the country of origin of the cuisine that marks Just Eat’s 400 millionth order.
Gabriella Hicks from Edinburgh, who placed Just Eat’s 400 millionth order said: “I use Just Eat regularly so to have placed its 400 millionth order is a lovely surprise. I ordered a cheeseburger from my favourite takeaway and now I’ve won a flight to America, I am beyond thrilled.”
To further celebrate the landmark occasion of its 400 millionth order, Just Eat is rewarding restaurant partner Sugar & Spice Grill House with an electric scooter – the latest technology to help reduce carbon emissions that result from food delivery – and a bespoke advertising campaign to raise further awareness of the takeaway in the local community.
Sugar & Spice Grill House is one of Edinburgh’s highest rated restaurants on Just Eat and is also a Just Eat Local Legend. Just Eat Local Legends are based on a number of factors,
including a loyal customer base who reorder time and time again, meaning they’re loved locally, and come highly recommended.
Owner of Sugar & Spice Grill House, Nadeem Anjid, said: “I’ve been with Just Eat for years so I am very happy to have placed its 400 millionth order. The electric scooter in particular will help with our growing takeaway business, so I’m over the moon.”
In 2006, Just Eat launched in the UK signing up its first restaurant partner Verona Pizza in London, which is still on the platform today. Since then, it has grown to more than 28,900 restaurant partners nationwide and over 100 cuisine types. Although it took eight years for Just Eat to reach 100 million orders, Just Eat has reached 400 million orders in just 11 months after hitting 300 million.
Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director of Just Eat said: “We couldn’t have reached our 400 million milestone without our loyal customers and dedicated restaurant partners. We’re giving our restaurant partner a brand new electric scooter, which will help them be more eco-friendly when delivering food. We also hope Gabriella enjoys her trip to the States – the country that’s home to the all-American cheeseburger that got her there.”
