Screen Education Edinburgh take Underpass to Southbank!

West Pilton-based Screen Education Edinburgh are flying the flag for the capital at film education charity Into Film’s  awards tomorrow at Central London’s famous BFI Southbank.

There are two Scottish nominations this year. The Isle of Tiree Film Club are nominated in the Club of the Year – 13 and over category while Screen Education Edinburgh’s Underpass is shortlisted n the Best Live Action Film – 13 and Over category.

Underpass features young practitioners aged 16-19 from all over the UK including a couple specifically from the Lothian region and the cast was sourced solely from Scotland too.

Screen Education Edinburgh tutors are attending the Awards alongside six members of the UK-wide crew. The young filmmakers were assembled as part of the BFI Film Academy Craft Skills Scotland residential course supported by Creative Scotland and City of Edinburgh Council Creativity Team.

Based at Edinburgh College Milton Road campus, the local area features strongly in the finished film.

Kelly Draper, Director of “Underpass”, said: “The Making of Underpass has not only been a phenomenal learning journey but also an incredible opportunity to work with a diligent, talented & dedicated crew and mentors to achieve an influential short film containing meaningful themes and messages throughout.

“I am inordinately grateful for The BFI Film Academy’s constant strive to help young filmmakers grow whilst offering us tremendous opportunities, thus helping the next generation to passionately achieve positive change through the inspiring messages in their films.”

Good luck to the Screen Education Edinburgh team!
