North Edinburgh Madelvic History Group is hosting a talk on William Speirs Bruce, a figure of major scientific importance to our understanding of the Antarctic and how what happens in the Antarctic impacts on our world today.
Those who have been affected by the icy cold over the last weeks will appreciate how it must have required huge dedication. The expedition he led remained in such very low temperatures to gather ground breaking data on climate, flora and fauna and the effects on a human being. The scientific work he did is the bedrock of our understanding today of what is happening to our planet.
WSB was dedicated to preserving the Antarctic as an ocean sanctuary, the largest protected area on earth.
Wednesday 28th March 2018. Doors open 6pm.
