From South Africa to Scotland: Stowaway frog clocks up the air miles!

The Scottish SPCA is caring for a suspected tree frog who bag-hopped his way over to Scotland from South Africa in a suitcase earlier in the week.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Tuesday when the frog was discovered by surprised holiday goers in Edinburgh. The frog was taken to the charity’s centre in Balerno where he was named Terrence.

Scottish SPCA Animal Rescue Officer Sarah Auldsmith said, “Terrence is just a small frog, roughly the same size as a jam tart, and must have jumped into the caller’s suitcase whilst packing! It was only when they went to unpack that they noticed him.

“Terrence seems in good health and we’ll be looking to rehome him with an expert after he has been properly checked over.”

Anyone concerned about the welfare of an animal should contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
