Edinburgh Climate Festival next Saturday

After two successful events, the third Edinburgh Climate Festival aims to be even bigger and better. Community-led organisations from across Edinburgh and surrounding areas invite the public to join them on Saturday 17th March (11am – 4pm) in Out of the Blue for the Climate Festival as part of Zero Waste Scotland’s #PassItOnWeek.

Booking is required through https://ecf2018.eventbrite.co.uk

The Climate Festival will feature free local food and a range of stalls, demonstrations and entertainment for all ages, including a Big Swap where clothes, books and seeds can be swapped. There will also be the chance to attend fun eco-workshops where you can learn a variety of skills, including how to reuse and upcycle everyday items. In addition, Out of the Blue will host a musical instrument amnesty collection point. Please bring your unwanted musical instruments in good condition (no pianos please!).

The event is a showcase and celebration of the work of communities in the Edinburgh area to tackle climate change, including the work of many projects funded through the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund (CCF). Two of the organisers, the SHRUB and ELREC, won categories at the inaugural CCF Awards last year.

The CCF is a Scottish Government grant programme, managed and administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful, which provides funding and support for community groups that are tackling climate change through local community-led projects.

Jean-Matthieu Gaunand, Communities for Conservation ELREC Project Coordinator, one of the event organisers said: “This will be a fabulous opportunity for people to learn more about climate change and to celebrate what has been achieved so far by communities in Edinburgh.

“Community-led organisations from across Edinburgh will be coming together to share their learning with the public, and the message that community action on climate change is about changing things for the better.”

David Gunn, Climate Challenge Fund Manager at Keep Scotland Beautiful commented: “I urge people to attend the Edinburgh Climate Festival and learn how practical and enjoyable lifestyle changes can help tackle climate change, as well as benefiting health and saving money.

“Through our management of the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund, we have been delighted to support community-led organisations from across Edinburgh to implement their climate action projects. It is fantastic to see so many of these organisations come together and share their knowledge through the Edinburgh Climate Festival.

“We look forward to empowering many more communities in and around Edinburgh to take action on climate change and see it as part of our work to make Scotland clean, green and sustainable.”

Andrew Pankhurst, Re-use Campaigns Manager, Zero Waste Scotland, said: “We’re delighted that the Edinburgh Climate Festival is backing Pass it on Week’s musical instrument amnesty 2018 – a great way to give the gift of music to others, as well as giving a new lease of life to something you don’t use anymore.  If you’re in Edinburgh on 17th March, why not drop in to out of the Blue and you could find an instrument perfect for you!”
