Derby Days: Edinburgh College students run football fundraiser for mental health charity

Not one but two Edinburgh derbies this weekend. Hibs face Hearts tonight at Easter Road – but Events Management students from Edinburgh College are also hosting a charity football game at Spartans Football Club on Sunday (11 March)!

The event focuses on the rivalry between Hearts and Hibs, with fans of each side forming the opposing teams. The match will raise funds for Health in Mind, a Scottish charity which promotes positive mental health and wellbeing.
Players will raise sponsorship money, spectators are asked to give a donation and there will be a raffle after the game, including signed shirts and football memorabilia.

The event runs from 4-6pm at Ainslie Park, with doors open from 3.30pm.

The students are operating as Emerald Tree Events and have organised the event as part of their course.

Sam Myers, fundraiser at Health in Mind, said: “Healthy bodies and healthy minds are so interlinked, so I think this is a great idea and really fitting.”

Each team still has a few positions available so anyone interested in taking part can contact the organisers at emeraldtreevents@hotmail.com.

More information can be found on the group’s Facebook page – @EmeraldTreeEvents.

Anyone who can’t take part but would still like to support the group can donate through its Justgiving page.
