Children’s Lottery cash for The Junction

Leith-based youth charity The Junction has been awarded a £14,897 grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery.

The Junction works with young people across Leith and North East Edinburgh to promote long-term prevention of health problems, raise young people’s awareness and self-esteem, and enable them to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.

The grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery will help fund the charity’s Positive Pathways Programme, which supports young people that struggle to engage in mainstream services. The programme offers a range of sessions including outdoor learning experiences, which explore the environment and local green spaces.

Suzanne Campbell, Service Manager at The Junction, (pictured) said: “We are delighted to receive this money from the Scottish Children’s Lottery to support our Positive Pathways Programme, which helps young people make positive changes to beliefs and behaviours, enabling them to reach their full potential.”

The Scottish Children’s Lottery was launched in October 2016 to raise money for children in Scotland, with proceeds helping to improve the lives of children right across the country and make a real difference to those who need it most.

Dorothy Fenwick is trustee of Chance to Study which operates as a society lottery under the Scottish Children’s Lottery. Chance to Study supports projects which aim to improve children’s education through their school years and into young adulthood, and ensure that all young people in Scotland have the opportunity to learn, develop and fulfil their potential.

Dorothy said: “Chance to Study believes that every child, no matter their background, should be able to maximise all the opportunities open to them during their school life, gaining the knowledge and experience that will help them take their place in society.

“I am delighted that this grant will support the valuable work of The Junction. Thank you to those who play the Scottish Children’s Lottery, you are helping to support the great work that our charities undertake.”
