Edinburgh businesses honoured at national awards

Two Edinburgh companies have scooped prestigious awards at the only awards programme in Scotland that recognises the achievements of local government suppliers. Sweco UK was crowned ‘large company’ winner (above), and ASA Recruitment took the SME winner title of the Partnership Working award at the recent Scotland Excel Supplier Excellence Awards.

The Partnership Working award recognises the valuable role both businesses have played in working closely with the city council to deliver valuable solutions.

ASA Recruitment supplies staff to local authorities through Scotland Excel’s agency workers framework. It has developed and implemented a system to share knowledge and information with public bodies. They worked in partnership with clients, including Edinburgh City Council to discuss requirements and trial the system.

Sweco UK, an engineering consultancy company on Scotland Excel’s engineering consultancy framework, has delivered a workplace travel planning programme in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council.  The programme has worked with 35 organisations at over 60 locations in and around Edinburgh where there’s now an improved walking and cycling infrastructure.

Iain Moir, Managing Director of ASA said: “The team at ASA (below) are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious Partnership Award from Scotland Excel.  We are grateful for the recognition of our digital staffing solution initiative. This was created specifically to improve the quality and efficiency of the service we provide to our partners in the local authorities around Scotland.”

Ruth Mustard, Associate and project leader, Sweco UK, said “We are passionate about encouraging more people across Scotland and the UK to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to work every day. This achievement is testament to the success of our partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council and we look forward to continuing the engagement with organisations across a range of sectors in the city.”

Edinburgh city councillor Graham Hutchison who sits on Scotland Excel’s Executive sub Committee, said: “Our suppliers play a vital role in supporting delivery of essential public services, and it is right and fitting that we recognise those that go the extra mile.

“Winning a Supplier Excellence Awards is a real accolade for the business community, as it’s the only awards programme in the country to recognise the achievements of local government suppliers.  Competition was tough, and our expert judging panel had its work cut out.

“My congratulations go to Sweco UK and ASA Recruitment for their hard work and well-deserved success in these prestigious awards.”

Twelve businesses scooped awards at the glittering event in Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel which was hosted by Dougie Vipond, and opened by Derek Mackay, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Constitution on Tuesday 20 February.
