Briggs encourages Lothian residents to volunteer as lifestyle coaches

Lothians MSP Miles Briggs is encouraging local people to take part in a new clinic trial. Breast Cancer Now is calling for new volunteers in the Edinburgh area to train as lifestyle coaches to deliver a major breast cancer risk reduction trial.

The pioneering £1 million ActWELL trial, funded by the Scottish Government, seeks to reduce women’s risk of developing breast cancer by helping them make sustainable lifestyle changes, focusing on physical activity, diet and body weight.

Women aged over 50 attending their routine breast screening appointments across Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow will be invited to take part in the trial and will receive one to one support from volunteer lifestyle coaches.

Miles Briggs, the Conservative health spokesperson at Holyrood, said: “It can be hard to change habits for a healthier lifestyle, but support and guidance really can make a huge difference.

“These lifestyle changes can have positive impact on other areas of your life, as well as helping to prevent breast cancer.

“I would like to urge anyone in Lothian who is interested in becoming an ActWell lifestyle coach to apply before the deadline of 26 January.”
