Christmas comes early for Edinburgh organisations

Lottery boost will help local singers start new group in Leith

Christmas has arrived early for 100 community groups across Scotland thanks to a National Lottery cash boost totalling £789,456. The funding comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland which makes grants from £300 to £10,000 to voluntary and community groups across the country.

Here are some examples of what is being funded in Edinburgh today:

  • The Cheyne Gang (above) is an Edinburgh based community singing group for people who have breathing difficulties.  They are based in Stockbridge, but thanks to an award of £10,000, they will be able to set up a new group in Leith.
  • Pilrig Bowling Club received £10,000 to refurbish their toilet facilities
  • Citadel Youth Theatre will use their £9960 to support a weekly computer games and coding club for 12 – 18 year olds
  • An award of £10,000 means that Blood Bikes Scotland Emergency Voluntary Services will be able to buy a new electric scooter to help their dedicated team of volunteer motorcyclists transport urgent supplies between NHS sites in the Lothians, Fife and Borders.

A National Lottery Awards for All spokesperson said: “This is National Lottery money making a real impact in communities across Scotland. All of these awards really showcase the variety of projects that can be funded and highlight the difference a relatively small amount of money can make.  We wish all of these groups all the best for the festive season and the future.”

National Lottery Awards for All Scotland is now more straightforward to apply to and faster to get funding from. Applications are received on a rolling basis and can be received at any time.
