Children from Ferryhill, Granton and Trinity Primary Schools are to feature in a special all-day Christmas Choirs programme on Christmas Day.
This Christmas Day, STV2 will dedicate the whole channel to school choirs from across Scotland singing festive songs. Over 1000 pupils from almost fifty primary schools across the country took part in a Christmas Songbook programme that will broadcast from midnight to midnight on 25th December – and starring among them will be children from our three local schools.
The talented youngsters will be performing traditional carols as well as festive favourites such as Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Unto Us A Child is Born, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Jingle Bell Rock.
Head of programmes, Paul Hughes, said: “This is our fourth year celebrating Christmas choirs on Christmas Day. It’s proved so popular with viewers that this year, for the first time, we’ll be running the programme from midnight to midnight. It’s the perfect soundtrack for families enjoying the celebrations, especially if you get to see one of your children or someone you know in the programme while you’re enjoying Christmas Dinner”.
Of the schools taking part, carollers from Edinburgh were filmed in St Mary’s Cathedral. The Edinburgh schools that feature in the programme are:
- Bonaly Primary School
- Clovenstone Primary School
- Dean Park Primary School
- East Craigs Primary School
- Ferryhill Primary School
- Granton Primary School
- Pentland Primary School
- Royal High Primary School
- St Cuthbert’s Primary School
- St Margaret’s Primary School
- Trinity Primary School
Jennifer Cairns, Headteacher of Clovenstone Primary School, (pictured) said: “I am so proud of our fantastic Glee Choir for their enthusiastic and festive performance as part of Christmas Songbook! This was an amazing experience for our children, one which we all thoroughly enjoyed and will remember. I am very much looking forward to watching them on Christmas Day!””
