Steven Naismith and Russell Martin go head to head as they attempt to keep straight faces whilst telling terrible Dad jokes
To celebrate Father’s Day, Vauxhall Motors challenged Scotland football heroes Steven Naismith and Russell Martin to take each other on in a special ‘Dad Joke Face Off’.
In a battle for supremacy, the teammates who faced England in a World Cup Qualifier last weekend, took turns to hold their nerve and resist the giggles as the other delivered a cringe-worthy joke. As millions of Dads drive their children to football matches up and down the country each weekend, Vauxhall Motors pay tribute to the ‘cab of dad’ by celebrating their most ‘beloved’ trait – bad jokes.
Naismith came out on top, proving that the essence to a good joke is behind the delivery. Both footballers were unable to keep a straight face when Naismith delivered the following cracker:
How did the skipper like to travel? On the Premier-ship!
Looking straight into each other’s eyes, Naismith’s dead pan delivery proved too much for Martin whose lip quivered throughout. Martin however was also able to crack Naismith, with both players bursting out laughing at this joke:
Why did the footballer have an accidental handball? Because he was arm strong!
The short video has been created with Naismith and Martin as part of Vauxhall Motors’ sponsorship of the Home Nations football teams. The players encouraged the public to show their appreciation for dads this Father’s Day.
Steven Naismith said “I hope I am never guilty of telling a terrible joke! The jokes Russell told were so bad, I’m ashamed I ended up laughing at some of them. Only Dads get away with telling dreadful jokes. It was a lot of fun taking on Russell in this terrible joke off and despite the shocking jokes we had a good laugh. We wish all Dads a happy Father’s Day!”
Andrew Curley, Head of Sponsorship and Events at Vauxhall Motors, said: “We all know that every Dad has their favourite ‘Dad joke’, it’s part of what makes them who they are. Father’s Day is the perfect excuse to show how much we appreciate our Dad’s humour, despite how terrible it might be! Why not try having your own Dad joke face off this Sunday?”
As official sponsor of the national football teams, Vauxhall Motors launched #GetIN as a platform for fans to show their support for their teams, celebrate the spirit of football and give fans one off experiences and real #GetIN moments.
Vauxhall Motors is also giving the public a chance to get a real laugh with a competition for two tickets to a John Bishop show and a chance to drive the brand-new Vauxhall Insignia. To enter, fans should visit: www.vauxhallfootball.co.uk
