Children’s language classes: as easy as uno, dos, tres!

Edinburgh based Language School Applauds Duchess of Cambridge for Teaching Royal Tots Spanish

The owner of an Edinburgh based children’s language business has praised Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, for teaching Prince George and Princess Charlotte to speak Spanish.

Giselle Dominguez, who runs Lingotot North Edinburgh, delivering classes in Broughton and Leith  for pre-school and primary school aged children across Edinburgh was delighted to hear the news that Prince George can already count to ten in Spanish and his little sister is also learning the language. The revelation was made during a visit to a charity farm project in Gloucestershire, where the Duchess shared the news with a group of schoolchildren.

The royal tots join a growing number of youngsters learning a second language, including Sam Faier’s son Paul who learns Spanish after appearing on ITV Be series the Mummy Diaries with Lingotot.

Up and down the country Lingotot teaches 10,000 children aged 0-11 each week to speak a range of modern foreign languages including French, Spanish, German, Arabic and Mandarin and here in Edinburgh the number of children grows month on month.

Giselle said: “I am delighted to hear that the young royals are learning a second language with the help of Kate and the children’s Spanish nanny. Research suggests that children who know two languages can gain an academic advantage over those who speak only one. Linguist experts say that between birth and five years of age, the human brain is hard-wired for learning multiple languages and after this age it becomes much harder.”

She went on: “At Lingotot we understand that not everyone has the resources to hire a nanny and in our lessons we teach the parents too, giving them top tips on how to use the language at home every day. We share our multilingual songs, stories and games with the whole family.

Giselle Dominguez invites you to come and try a Lingotot class for free at one of their venues  and your little one will be saying ‘uno, dos, tres’ before you know it!

Letters: Don’t fall for five more years of Tory havoc

Dear Editor,

In the last few years there has been a relentless anti – Labour/ Jeremy Corbyn campaign waged by those who control information from the press or other media. This is based on the well tried method that if you repeat something over and over again some people will start to believe it, in effect being told what to think and how to act.

The whole advertising industry works on that principal spending millions of pounds doing so, this principal also applies to the information industry. If the Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn are not electable as they claim, the question must be asked, why have they conducted such a sustained campaign? Could it be that given equal unbiased coverage of the Labour policy that speaks for the vast majority of people, they would be elected?

Working people rely for their existence on having secure employment without which poverty beckons, and having had the experience of the last 7 years of Tory control this threat is always present.

The financial crisis of 2008 was not caused by the working population but by Banks and Financial Institutions, the working population is having to pay for it.

People have been fooled in the past to give their vote to the Tories, it would be a disaster to give them another five years to continue their dreadful havoc on our lives.

‘Our message is simple: the best approach is NONE’

POLICE LAUNCH DRINK/DRUG DRIVING CAMPAIGN

Sadly, statistics show that this is the time of year when Scotland’s road users are at their highest risk of being killed or seriously injured because the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Sometimes “just one drink” can push you over the legal limit and in turn have devastating consequences.

The video (below) from THINK road safety is a reminder that you should not succumb to peer pressure in social situations. Every life is worth more than any extra drink.

Speaking about the launch of a campaign to tackle this issue, our national Head of Road Policing Chief Superintendent Andy Edmonston said: “As we head towards summer there are many additional social events for people to attend, such as barbecues with family and friends or larger organised events such as town shows or village galas. All are perfect opportunities to socialise in relaxed surroundings and many people will take the opportunity to have an alcoholic drink.

“Whatever the occasion, as responsible individuals, we all have a duty to consider the amount of alcohol we consume if we intend on driving. It is important to remember that the measures of alcoholic drinks consumed at social events can be significantly more than pub measures. Unfortunately, people can get caught up in the moment and unintentionally or otherwise over-indulge in alcohol.

“Drivers must consider that even if you make alternative arrangements to get home after an event, you could be over the limit the next day, depending upon the amount you have had to drink. The effects of alcohol do not wear off immediately and drivers must be aware of this if they intend driving the following morning. Make sure you do not get caught out.

“Over the next week our increased visibility and activity throughout the country aims to reassure the public that drink/drug driving is highly dangerous and publicly unacceptable. If you choose to drink and drive or drive whilst unfit due to the effects of drugs there is a high likelihood that you will be caught.

“Our message is simple – the best approach is none.”

Police Scotland is committed to achieving the Scottish Government’s 2020 casualty reduction targets by tackling the risks associated with drink/drug driving and the campaign supports the service’s efforts to reduce road casualties.

Anyone with information on drink/drug drivers can contact Police Scotland on 999 in an emergency. Alternatively call 101 or Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111
