The Library is Open: Scotland’s LGBT literary legends get set to celebrate Book Week in Edinburgh

Crime writer Val McDermid is to join other LGBT literary legends to celebrate Scotland’s LGBT literary heritage as part of Book Week Scotland this weekend. Val joins authors Louise Welsh, Zoe Strachan, Allan Radcliffe and Ryan Vance for ‘The Library is Open‘, an evening of readings and conversation this Saturday at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre.

‘The Library is Open’ is supported by LGBT Youth Scotland and LGBT History Month Scotland to recognise and celebrate the contribution of LGBT people and their heritage to Scotland’s rich and diverse cultural life.
 
Michael Richardson, LGBT History Month Co-ordinator said: “We’re delighted to be bringing together some of Scotland’s most renowned LGBT literary talent to celebrate LGBT heritage as part of Book Week Scotland.
 
“Scotland has a wealth of diverse literary talent, and this in-conversation event provides a social space to explore the significance of LGBT heritage with the authorsIt’s a must for any book lovers who want to get to know the people behind the stories.”
 
Speaking about The Library is Open, writer Zoe Strachan, who will be hosting the event said: “Scotland has produced world-famous LGBT authors, but its rich and varied library of queer writing has often been neglected.
 
“LGBT History Month and LGBT Youth Scotland work tirelessly to ensure that the wonderful and diverse voices of Scotland are heard, because these words can be life-changing for readers and writers everywhere. This event in Book Week Scotland will be a celebration and an inspiration!”
 
All proceeds from the event will go to supporting the work of LGBT Youth Scotland, to improve young LGBT people’s lives in Scotland.
