The incident took place around 2 am on 24 April in the Pilrig Street area, when a 31-year-old man was struck in the face and sustained a broken jaw.

Officers are eager to trace the man pictured (above) as he may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as a white man, 5 ft 8 inches tall, in his 20’s, with a slim/medium build. He had short blonde or ginger hair, an Edinburgh accent and was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Iain Wallace of Gayfield said: “The victim was subjected to a violent and unprovoked assault while walking back from a night out with his friend. The man pictured is believed to be of significance to our investigation, and I’d urge anyone who may recognise him to come forward.”
