Morrisons launches family recipe box delivery service with five meals for £30

Morrisons has launched a food box that offers families the ingredients for five meals together with simple recipes describing how to cook them … and all for just £30, including delivery.

The family recipe box – called Five Meals to Feed a Family of Four – is designed to provide quick, easy and affordable homemade meals that families can cook from scratch at home.

Each is designed to be served in the evenings and make mealtimes a social, family experience.

The launch comes after a study released earlier in July showed an increase in family dinners during lockdown, with shared family mealtimes being cited as positive for mental health and social wellbeing[1].

Priced at £30, including next-day or nominated day delivery, the Morrisons family recipe box works out at just £1.50 per meal per head. Other similar boxes on the market cost upwards of £50 for the same number of meals and customers can save up to 78 per cent on the cost of the meals per serving by choosing Morrisons[2].

Unlike other recipe boxes, the Morrisons family recipe box contains full retail-sized packs of ingredients. This means customers will also have ingredients left over at the end of the week – which they can use to cook more meals.

The box is ideal for families that enjoy preparing meals from scratch and is also a great way to get children involved cooking at home.

Tessa Callaghan Head of Food Boxes at Morrisons said: “Many of our customers enjoy eating meals as a family and we have seen customers do this more during the pandemic. It can be difficult to constantly cook up new dishes that please everyone. So, we wanted to create a great value box that contained high-quality produce and recipe cards – to make it easier to try new things.”

Recipes that are included in the Morrisons Five Meals to Feed a Family of Four box are:

  • Classic Spaghetti Bolognese
  • Veggie Pasta Bake
  • Rosti Topped Cottage Pie
  • Sausage Tray Bake
  • Mixed Bean Chilli with Wedges

The box contains 22 different products and weighs 14kg. The contents represent a saving on normal Morrisons instore prices, even with next day delivery included.

Morrisons has sold tens of thousands of food boxes. Customers can now choose from 15 varieties including; a Vegetarian Food Box, Gluten Free Food Box, BBQ Food Box, Market Kitchen Takeaway Favourites Box and British Farmers Food Box. For more information, visit: morrisons.com/food-boxes.

The Morrisons Five Meals to Feed a Family of Four is available to buy via www.morrisons.com/food-boxes from Wednesday 15 July. Orders placed before 3pm can be delivered next day.

Morrisons introduces Food Parcels for customers to donate to food banks

  • Customers can purchase pre-packed bags of groceries designed around the needs of local food banks
  • Move follows £10m initial donation from the supermarket at the start of the pandemic –

Morrisons is making it easier for its customers to feed people in need by launching food parcels that can be bought and then donated at the checkout.

Food banks are often overwhelmed by products such as rice and pasta and short of other items that people actually need.

The supermarket’s new ‘Pick Up Packs’ cost between £1 and £3 and contain a mix of food products that have been requested by the local food bank based on their local needs.

The packs are the brainchild of Morrisons colleague Michelle Leary from Basingstoke, who noticed that customers struggled with what to donate to food banks.

The pre-packed parcels mean that customers don’t need to spend time browsing the shelves for items to donate. After a successful trial, they are now being rolled out nationally.

Customers can easily pick one up at the start of their shop and pay for it at the till with the rest of their shopping. The pack is then put aside and collected by volunteers working for the food bank.

Rebecca Singleton, Community Director at Morrisons, said: “The UK’s food banks are a lifeline for the most vulnerable in our communities and these parcels are an easy way to donate to them. At Morrisons, we want to play our full part in feeding the nation and ensure nobody gets left behind.”

The ‘Pick Up Pack’ initiative is part of Morrisons drive to restock Britain’s food banks and continue feeding the nation, particularly those who are vulnerable and struggling with the economic fallout of COVID-19.

Additionally, Morrisons, in partnership with the Trussell Trust, has also become the first UK supermarket to trial an online donation mechanism that goes straight into the pockets of local food banks.

Customers can purchase £10 vouchers on the Morrisons Food Boxes website (http://www.morrisons.com/food-boxes) which gets sent directly to a local food bank of their choice.  The online scheme was initially piloted with 5 local food banks and has now been rolled out to 50 nationally.

“They’ve been created using authentic recipes and good ingredients. We hope they’ll go some way to satisfying our cravings for some of our favourite takeaways.”

Launched at the start of the coronavirus pandemic to help feed the nation, Morrisons has now sold tens of thousands of food boxes delivered to customers’ doorsteps.

As the nation’s shopping habits continue to change, Morrisons has increased production to cater for all customers, not just those vulnerable and self-isolating.

The Market Kitchen Takeaway Favourites and Market Street Food Menu Boxes join ten others in Morrisons Food Box range including; the Vegan Essentials Food Box; British Food Box; and Family Meat Box.

Morrisons extends NHS 10% discount to September

– Initial 12 week discount for NHS Heroes will be extended until the end of September –

– The move is a thank you to hard working NHS staff during the battle against the coronavirus –

Morrisons is to extend the 10% discount that NHS heroes receive on their grocery shop until the end of September.

The discount was first introduced in April and aims to support the 1.5 million NHS staff through the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It is a thank you from Morrisons.

NHS staff are continuing to put themselves at risk and face numerous challenges during the Coronavirus emergency.

Morrisons is therefore to extend the discount until September 30th when it will be reviewed.

For the first time, NHS workers will also be able to gain the discount if they are ordering a home delivery through Morrisons.com. They simply have to sign up for the Morrisons NHS Club to receive the discount.

David Potts, Morrisons Chief Executive said: “We want to thank everybody in the National Health Service for playing their part in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus.

“We hope this measure combined with our dedicated hours for NHS staff will make life a little easier at this very challenging time for them.”

To benefit from the 10% discount staff need to present their NHS ID card in all Morrisons stores.

To make sure NHS staff can get hold of the groceries they need, Morrisons have also introduced an NHS hour at the beginning of every day from 6am-7am. On Sundays, the majority of stores open at 9am for hard working NHS workers to shop.

£500,000 Morrisons Foundation Fund offers Lifeline to Homeless

Morrisons Foundation has set aside a £500,000 fund over the next three months to help charities offer additional protection, services and support to the homeless as a result of Covid-19.

There are currently 320,00 homeless people in Briton and experts are warning more must be done to support the homeless and to avoid a spike in homelessness resulting from the pandemic’s economic impact.

The emergency funds are being provided as homeless people and charities face a crunch because:

  • There has been a 48% decline in voluntary income to charities since the onset of Covid-19
  • Many hotels have been forced to close, leaving some without accomodation
  • Some charities have seen a 20% reduction in staff due to self isolation and sickness
  • Charities have had to urgently source PPE equipment, food and everyday essentials.

Charities will be able to apply for emergency funding to pay for these costs.

David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “Morrisons is committed to helping the most vulnerable in our society.

“We know that the coronavirus outbreak presents a particular risk to the homeless and we want to do our bit to help. This new fund will help charities doing vital work to care for the homeless at this critical time.”

Nick Connolly, Managing Director of End Youth Homelessness, said: “Our member charities need cash to pay for staff, personal protective equipment, food and other essentials to a level they could not have possibly have envisaged a few months ago. We are so pleased this is being recognised.”

Charities will be able to apply for financial help with:

  • Outreach and support for rough sleepers – including the supply of food and healthcare essentials
  • Delivery of services in hostels and shelters – including the payment of additional staff, purchase of PPE equipment and provision of emergency accommodation
  • Information and advice – including the provision of health and wellbeing services and helplines.

Rough sleepers are particularly vulnerable to Covid-19 as they are more likely to have underlying health conditions and are less able to access basic sanitation.

Charities can apply online for grants of up to £10,000 at www.morrisonsfoundation.com and successful applications will be fast tracked for payment.

Morrisons: Feeding the Nation update

Thank you to all our customers and Morrisons Key workers for your patience, consideration and support in the face of the Coronavirus challenge we are all facing right now.

I’d like to share with you some of the initiatives we’ve been working hard to deliver over this last week.

Till Screens

We’ve installed protective screens on all checkouts, in all stores. A huge achievement with great feedback from our customers and Key Workers.

Home Shopping

Our home shopping business is experiencing unprecedented high demand at the moment. We are working extremely hard to create as many delivery slots as we can. We have taken on an extra 3,000 Key Workers and are on track to increase capacity by 60% by the end of April.

And we’ve launched our Morrisons Food Box service which delivers 2 types of food box to the most vulnerable customers during self isolation.

Contactless Limit Increase

The Contactless card limit is being raised from £30 to £45 in all stores by Friday 3rd April. Please use contactless payments whenever you can as this will help reduce the need for physical contact between customers and our Key Workers.

Paying Our Suppliers

We know the increased demand on our smaller suppliers has been significant and to help them get through any difficulties caused by the spread of Coronavirus and ensure we play our part in working together, we have been paying our suppliers immediately since we first announced this in mid-March.

Join us and, together, we can help feed some of the most in need …

We’ve set up local food bank donation areas in all stores to help everybody play their part in Feeding The Nation. We’re running our manufacturing sites for an extra hour on top of the already longer production runs to help us jointly contribute £10 million by July. Supplies in our local food banks have been severely reduced in recent weeks and they need us now more than ever. If you can donate a grocery item, then please do.

Morrisons thanks staff with threefold increase in bonus for next 12 months

  • Full time colleagues will earn a bonus of £1,050 compared to around £350 average last year
  • The special bonus is the largest for frontline supermarket staff announced in recent weeks

Morrisons is recognising the huge effort by its colleagues who are helping to feed the nation during the coronavirus outbreak by increasing this year’s annual bonus payout threefold from last year.

Morrisons annual colleague bonus will become a ‘thank you’ bonus with the increase lasting for the next 12 months.

Because it will be a percentage of the entire year’s pay, frontline colleagues at Morrisons will see the largest special bonus of those announced over the last few weeks in the supermarket sector.

Morrisons colleagues have worked tirelessly to help meet demand and to thank them they will see these changes to the current bonus scheme:

  • All frontline colleagues will receive a 6% bonus on their earnings for the next 12 months rather than just the next 8-12 weeks
  • The changes represent a bonus payment of £1,050 for a full-time frontline colleague compared to the £351 that would have been paid last year
  • The bonus will be guaranteed in recognition of the effort made by very hard working colleagues
  • It will be paid quarterly so colleagues don’t have to wait until next year to be paid
  • The bonus will continue to be paid as a percentage of actual earnings as per previous years
  • Colleagues who are off sick or are self-isolating will remain eligible
  • Both permanent and temporary colleagues will be eligible in recognition of the thousands of new colleagues who have joined Morrisons in recent weeks.

Clare Grainger, Group People Director said: “Our highly valued colleagues have stood tall amidst the coronavirus pandemic, playing their full part in feeding the nation.

“We want to thank every single one of them for their continued hard work during these unprecedented times by paying a much higher guaranteed bonus for the whole year in recognition of their effort.”

Morrisons frontline salaried managers are also guaranteed to receive a bonus that will be twice their maximum yearly amount in a normal year, again guaranteed and paid quarterly.

The bonus overhaul is the latest change that Morrisons has put in place for its highly valued colleagues.

Previous measures include paying extremely vulnerable and high risk colleagues 12 weeks paid leave to self isolate as well as paying 12 weeks paid leave to colleagues who live with someone who is high risk and extremely vulnerable.

In store, perspex screens have been installed to protect colleagues and customers while paying for groceries at the checkouts and social distancing measures have been introduced.
