A challenge designed to instil a love of reading in young people is being extended to reach an additional 173,000 children across Scotland. The First Minister’s Reading Challenge will now be open to children in Primary 1 to Primary 7, after the success of the initial scheme which was for primaries 4 – 7. Swinney launches STEM teacher recruitment drive

A new teacher recruitment campaign has been launched by Deputy First Minister John Swinney. The ‘Teaching Makes People’ campaign targets university undergraduates studying science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects as well as people currently working in STEM industries. Edinburgh Womens Aid to run Mellow Parenting course


Edinburgh Womens Aid will be running a  mellow  parenting programme beginning 24th April. The programme will run for 8 weeks in Link Up at St Margaret’s House at Meadowbank.

Criteria: Woman that have experienced Domestic abuse with preschool age children and in need of additional support in parenting. A crèche will be available.

Canal View P6s win online maths competition

Primary 6 pupils at Canal View Primary School have come first in an online maths competition run across all City of Edinburgh Council primary schools. The City of Edinburgh City Council Education Convener Cllr Cammy Day visited the school on Tuesday to congratulate the class and to present them with their winning trophy. Book gift packs for all P2 and P3 children

Every P2 and P3 child in Scotland will receive a pack containing books, games and other materials to help improve their literacy and numeracy skills. Education Secretary John Swinney launched the first packs at Towerbank Primary School, as part of the Read, Write, Count campaign delivered by Scottish Book Trust which encourages parents to actively engage in their child’s learning journey.
