Concern grows for missing Drylaw man

Concern is growing for a young man who has now been missing from his Drylaw home for six days. Blair Davidson, who is 21, has not been seen since last Wednesday.

Blair left his home in Easter Drylaw Place some time after 8.30am to attend an appointment in the Tollcross area – but he has not been seen since.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Blair Davidson is 21 years old, 6ft tall, slim build, short dark brown hair, and usually has facial stubble. He was last seen wearing a dark grey tracksuit, carrying a black ‘Trespass’ rucksack, and also had a maroon tracksuit with him.”

Inspector Graeme Dignan, who is leading the search, added: “I am asking anyone who has seen him, or has information about his whereabouts, to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 800 555 111.”

Urgent police appeal: help find missing boy

Local police are appealing for witnesses to help trace a missing child. Mikael Kular was last seen going to bed at his home address in Ferry Gait at around 9pm yesterday evening.

However, when his family awoke this morning, the three-year-old was not within the property. Officers are now conducting local enquiries in the area to trace Mikael and are being assisted by officers from the Air Support Unit.

Anyone who believes they have seen him since last night or this morning is asked to contact police immediately.

Mikael is described as three foot tall and possibly wearing a beige hooded jacket, brown shoes and nightwear.

Chief Inspector Sara Buchanan said: “We have currently got a large police presence within the Drylaw area as we conduct our enquiries to trace Mikael.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a young boy matching his description since yesterday evening to contact police immediately.

“As part of our investigation we are also trying to determine how the child has left his home and anyone with information that can assist with these enquiries is also asked to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Drylaw sees the big picture

Drylaw now has it’s own public big TV screen. The high-tech equipment was installed last night and community leaders believe the big screen will attract new visitors to the area.

A spokesman for Drylaw Telford Community Council said: “Although it’s not as large as we were promised we accept that money is tight and are delighted that the council has agreed to locate a big screen in Drylaw. Drylaw has really needed this for a long time – we don’t think it’s right that the city centre gets everything, Edinburgh is more than Princes Street, the Bridges and Lothian Road. Now local people will be able to gather together in their own community to watch major sporting events and Strictly Come Dancing – it will help generate a new community spirit and will become a talking point, a bit like the Angel of the North. I’m convinced tourists will flock to Drylaw.”

A council spokesperson said: “The City of Edinburgh Council is often accused of wasting council tax payers money on expensive vanity projects like education and roads. This exciting initiative clearly demonstrates that this council is listening to communities.”

Travelling Gallery to visit Drylaw

The Travelling Gallery embark on its Scottish tour this Friday (23 August) with ‘THIS LAND’, a new autumn exhibition presenting a beautifully alternative view of the Scottish landscape – and it’s stopping off at Drylaw on it’s travels. You can catch the exhibition at the local centre next Thursday (29 August) afternoon from 2 – 5pm.

Inspired by the Year of Natural Scotland, the Travelling Gallery’s autumn exhibition presents an alternative view of the Scottish landscape, through works by artists with a diverse range of practices.

Exhibits will include paintings by Henry Coombes and a series of works exploring the history, geology and politics of the island of Rockall by Andy Holden. Hannah Imlach uses sculpture and photography to explore new environments and find connections between the landscape and the human body, while Michael Reisch and Iain Sarjeant both show photographs which focus on interaction between natural and man-made environments.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy a complementary programme of films, postcards, sketchbooks and other works to support the exhibition.

The Travelling Gallery is a custom-built, mobile, contemporary art space inside a big beautiful bus. Supported by Creative Scotland, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the City of Edinburgh Council, the Travelling Gallery brings high quality contemporary art exhibitions and events to schools and communities throughout Scotland.

Edinburgh will be the first stop on the gallery’s Scottish-wide tour, stationed in a variety of locations around the Capital between 23 and 30 August.

Councillor Richard Lewis, the city’s Culture and Sport Convener, said: “Yet again the Travelling Gallery curators have devised a fascinating exhibition which I am sure will delight crowds across Scotland. As a Council we’re committed to making art and culture as accessible as possible to a variety of people, and what could be more accessible than a mobile gallery? I hope everyone takes the opportunity to pay the Travelling Gallery a visit when it comes to town.”

EDRA action to target Drylaw dog fouling

EDRA (Easter Drylaw Residents Association) members, supported by Environmental Wardens, are planning two Days of Action to tackle dog fouling in our local area. We will be handing out leaflets and speaking to as many people as possible.

Witnesses sought to Drylaw assault

A man is being treated in hospital after being found in a Drylaw street with serious head injuries.

Emergency services were called to Easter Drylaw Drive at 3.30 this morning, where a 25-year-old man was found lying in the street with serious head and facial injuries. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he is now being treated.

Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses to the attack. A spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating after a man was seriously assaulted. The 25-year-old victim was found with injuries to his face and head outside an address in Easter Drylaw Drive at around 3.30am on Friday 16 August.

“He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he continues to be treated. Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and anyone with information that can assist with this investigation is asked to contact Police Scotland.”

Drylaw’s bench has MOOved!

The famous Drylaw bench has moved on to pastures new!

The impressive stone sculpture seat was the centrepiece when Drylaw Field was upgraded in 2007 but, six years on and following a number of attacks, it was agreed that the bench should be moved to a safer (stable?) location.

The bench was uplifted on Friday and the moove (sorry again) to Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre went well.

That bench has seen some activity in it’s short life and a number of notable posteriors have rested there over the years – including two Lord Provosts!
