Edinburgh Doors Open Days Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th September
Edinburgh Doors Open Day is your chance to explore some of Edinburgh’s architecturally and culturally significant buildings – all for free. From heritage landmarks to the city’s newest architecture, Doors Open Day offers free access to properties that are either not usually open to the public or would normally charge an entry fee. The event also offers the public an opportunity to find out more about the capital’s public buildings.

St Columba’s Hospice is pleased to be taking part in Doors Open Day Edinburgh on Saturday 24th September …
For one day only, buildings across Edinburgh with a fascinating story to tell will be open to the public, so come and join us to see what goes on at St Columba’s Hospice. Our doors will be open from 11am – 4pm.
We’ll be opening our doors to the general public, giving you a chance to meet our staff and volunteers who will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the Hospice, palliative care, the services we provide and there’s even an opportunity to meet our therapets.
As part of Doors Open Day at St Columba’s Hospice, you can:
On Doors Open Day, you will be able to learn about the Hospice, the services we provide and the architecture of our building – both the historical Challenger Lodge and also the multi-million pound newly built extension.
Guided tours will be offered by our team of volunteers throughout the day.
Edinburgh Doors Open Days Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September
The Cockburn Association (Edinburgh’s Civic Trust) organises Edinburgh Doors Open Day. Now in its 23rd year, the event has become one of the capital’s most popular free days out. This is your chance to explore some of Edinburgh’s most architecturally, culturally and socially significant buildings.
Many venues feature behind the scenes tours, activities, exhibitions and/or talks which bring the history of the building, garden, cemetery or monument and its everyday use to life. Some sites organise additional free activities for children and families.
We are pleased to announce that Edinburgh Doors Open Day 2014 will take place on the 27th & 28th September.
The 2014 TALKS SERIES will be taking place in the week running up to Edinburgh Doors Open Day from 22nd to 26th of September. The list of talks, held at RCAHMS, 16 Bernard Terrace and Riddle’s Court, 322 Lawnmarket, can be found on page 4 of the brochure (above). Advanced booking is advised via:

There are loads of exciting, fun and FREE actvities for the whole family to enjoy this weekend. As well as the Craft giveaway at The Botanics (see previous post), don’t forget this is Doors Open weekend in Edinburgh (visit the website for a list of all attractions at www.cockburnassociation.org.uk
And of course there’s also Septemberfest, Broughton High School’s autumn extravaganza – see their Facebook for a full list of what’s going on on Saturday down at East Fettes Avenue.

No less than 121 locations across the city will be opening their doors to the public, and you don’t have to travel too far to see some of them.
In Inverleith, you can visit the Royal Botanic Garden, Herbarium and Library on Saturday between 10am – 4pm, or what about the Danish Cultural Institute, an elegant Georgian town house in Doune Terrace (Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 5pm)? Another Georgian town house opening it’s doors to inquisitive visitors is the Edinburgh Photographic Society in Great King Street (Sunday 11am – 4pm). Then there’s Dean Cemetery (Sunday 1 – 4.30pm), Edinburgh Society of Musicians on Belford Road (Saturday 10am – 4pm) and Stewart’s Melville College on Queensferry Road (Saturday 2 – 5pm).
North of Ferry Road there are many more places to visit – the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop at Hawthornvale (Saturday 10am – 4.30pm), Alien Rock on Pier Place Newhaven (Saturday and Sunday 10am – 7pm) and old Newhaven Station on Craighall Road (Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm).
Moving west into Trinity, Granton and Muirhouse we’ve got St Columba’s Hospice Education Centre on Boswall Road (Sunday 10am – 5pm), Wardie Primary School on Granton Road (Saturday 10am – 1pm), the National Museums Collection Centre on Granton Road (Saturday 10.30am – 4pm) and Muirhouse St. Andrew’s Parish Church in Pennywell Gardens (Saturday 10am – 4pm).
This is just a local selection, of course – citywide there are many, many more to visit and remember, they’re all FREE!
