New research which has uncovered the street artists and murals that are being photographed and shared on Instagram the most right now in Edinburgh.
Since 2013, Edinburgh has been building up its street art presence, largely in thanks to The Mural Project. Launched by the visual arts organisation LeithLate,The Leith Aquatic mural became the first to be painted in two decades. This has paved the way for further commissions and for a variety of artist expressionists to flourish in the city. But which street art is receiving the most attention in Edinburgh right now?
Analysis of street art Instagram posts tagged in the north of the UK between June and July has uncovered the current street art that is the biggest hit socially amongst fans and enthusiasts online.

No one street artist is dominating with their pieces, highlighting that the city has a diverse number of artists gaining recognition.
Interestingly, Edinburgh is the only city in the north to have a commercial brand and not a street artist or collective sitting at the number one spot. The Never Ordinary mural (above) as commissioned to promote the Elton John biopic Rocketman is causing waves on Instagram. The winged piece has many similarities to the Liver Birds mural in Liverpool.
Highlighting that street art enthusiasts have a penchant for putting themselves in the picture, mural painter Chris Rutterford secures the second spot with Capita Mural whilst graffiti artist Rogue Oner sits in third place with his Wildlife Mural.
There are 3,407 posts relating to Edinburgh Street art on Instagram, proving more popular than Newcastle, Leeds and York.
