Edinburgh Printmakers recently moved into its new £11m home in Fountainbridge, offering a creative hub in the capital – and now artists and locals alike can enjoy Café Ink, the new café which has opened within the building.
Catering company, Heritage Portfolio has developed the concept for Café Ink, creating a relaxed, casual dining experience within the backdrop of the contemporary art space. Situated on the first floor of the building it has floor to ceiling windows providing a bright, airy space close to the Union Canal.
Café Ink has 56 tables, as well as additional seating in the courtyard space for al fresco days. The menu has been designed to offer healthy, homemade, delicious dishes from breakfast through to early evening. A sustainable focus has been incorporated into the design of the café with old doors found in the building being upcycled into tables and all glassware is made from recycled glass.
Heritage Portfolio has developed a diverse all-day menu that recognises the latest food trends – a large proportion of the menu is vegan with the option for customers to add other ingredients to tailor to their taste buds with the addition of eggs, bacon, halloumi and chicken.
This approach fits with the company’s ethos to operate sustainably and monitor its impact on the environment. It also works very closely with local suppliers to ensure its carbon footprint is kept to a minimum.
Commenting on the new café on the southside of the city, Siobhan Leith, Head of Marketing at Heritage Portfolio said: “We took great care to ensure that Café Ink complemented the new home of Edinburgh Printmakers, as well as appealing to the local community.
“I’m confident that as the word spreads about our funky dishes, created by Lizzie Arber our Retail Development Chef such as the avocado and edamame smash or our protein power bowl, it will soon become a hub within a hub.
“The team has extensive experience and they have worked hard to develop an enticing menu that has something to satisfy our different grazing habits throughout the day.”
