Inaugural Edinburgh Asian Awards nominee shortlist revealed

The nominees for the inaugural Edinburgh Asian Awards 2018, hosted by Sunoh Edinburgh, Edinburgh’s first and only Asian radio station, have been announced.

Featuring 27 candidates across nine different award categories, the winners will be announced at the special awards dinner at Eskmills Venue in Musselburgh on the evening of 10th March.

The awards were established by Sharjil Nawed, founder of Sunoh Edinburgh. He said: “Edinburgh has such a vibrant Asian community that I thought it was about time we recognised and celebrated its achievements on a wider scale.

“While there are other awards which are focused on a particular business sector this is the first awards event to bring together individuals, businesses and community groups.

“Being the first year of the awards, we were absolutely delighted with the response – over 1,000 entries were received which the panel of judges has carefully whittled down to just 27 nominees.

“There are some really inspiring and dedicated individuals on the shortlist and we look forward to recognising their achievements and hard work at the awards dinner next month.”

In addition to the nine category awards, a further three will be presented during the evening. These are:

  • Best Asian Event
  • Culture Champion
  • Asian Role Model

The winners of these awards have been specially selected by the judging panel in recognition of their contribution to the Asian community.
