BT Murrayfield has made a bid to become the future home of Scottish football – and now football fans are being given the chance to take a look around the capital stadium for free!
SFA Supporters Club members and club season ticket holders are invited to take up the 100 free places being offered for an exclusive tour of Scotland’s biggest stadium on Thursday 3 May.
The tour will showcase the rich sporting history of BT Murrayfield and give football fans behind-the-scenes access.
Scottish Rugby has taken up the Scottish FA’s invitation to bid to bring Scotland’s international football matches to BT Murrayfield from 2020 onwards.
The SFA’s current Hampden lease is due to expire and a decision on the future home of Scottish football is expected this summer.
Scottish Rugby’s Chief Operating Officer Dominic McKay said: “Rugby has a long tradition of hospitality and we are excited about giving fans of football a chance to see BT Murrayfield for themselves.
“We are very proud of BT Murrayfield and want to showcase the both the great facilities we have and the rich history our sport enjoys.
“As Scotland’s biggest stadium we feel it has a real role to play in the future of hosting both the national rugby and football teams, and this open day will give fans the chance to experience it first-hand.”
Supporters on the tour will get an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Scottish Rugby’s most prized memorabilia, including the recently-won Calcutta Cup, whilst also experiencing the atmosphere of the Scotland Dressing Room and Team Tunnel, and taking a tour of the Bill McLaren Press Gallery.
Since the first ever international match was played between Scotland and England in 1871, Scottish Rugby has had a rich history, with BT Murrayfield itself witnessing iconic rugby moments since its own first match in 1925, as well as some of football’s biggest names.
It has also played host to some of the world’s most famous bands when it transforms into the country’s largest concert venue.
Applications for the 100 free tour places are open to all SFA Supporters Club members and club season ticket holders, and can be completed on the Scottish Rugby website via this link
Tours will take place at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm on Thursday 3 May. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and will be offered to the first 100 supporters to register their interest.
