One million thanks from Scottish children

The Scottish Children’s Lottery has achieved a double milestone.  The charity created to support children across Scotland has reached its first anniversary – and succeeded in raising the landmark figure of £1 million!

The funds generated – thanks to Scottish Children’s Lottery subscribed players all over Scotland – are being used to support children and young people’s charities and projects across four key areas: early years’ intervention, education and health, employment skills and employability, and community development and citizenship. 

The Scottish Children’s Lottery hopes that its £1 million milestone will encourage online applications from eligible charitable organisations and groups across the country. 

Over 50 awards ranging from £1,000 to £50,000 have already been distributed. Examples of the charities and projects which have received funding include: 

Fischy Music in Edinburgh  (£11,696)

Fischy Music (below) uses music and song to support the emotional wellbeing of young children. The charity works with thousands of children every year, from those dealing with the challenges of everyday life to those facing significant emotional trauma, such as loss and grief.

Other successful Edinburgh applicants include Edinburgh City Youth Cafe, Multi Cultural Family Base, Venture Trust and Hopscotch (see below).

Enable Scotland in Cumbernauld  (£23,777)

Supports children with learning disabilities and their families and carers.  The SCL funding has helped the charity’s RASCALS project which provides after school support for children with learning disabilities and is the only service of its kind in Lanarkshire.

Bobath Scotland Cerebral Palsy Centre in Glasgow  (£11,770)

Offers advice, help and support to children and families living with cerebral palsy all over Scotland. Specialist therapy focuses on reducing pain, developing communication and improving mobility  to help children with the condition make the most of their abilities.

Strathmore Centre for Youth Development in Blairgowrie  (£13,853)

The charity offers services to young people aged 11 – 25 in the Strathmore area, delivering a range of projects providing opportunities for young people to realise their potential. Services range from employment advice and abuse counseling to budgetary guidance and volunteering opportunities.
