Briggs chairs national cancer conference

The Scottish Cancer Conference has held it’s twelfth event for a range of organisation and people who are involved with cancer to come together and share information, network, learn and discuss the latest developments in the fight to beat cancer. Yesterday’s event was hosted by Cancer Research UK and the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Cancer and held at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Chair Miles Briggs MSP welcomed delegates to the event and introduced a programme which included a number of lectures, time for networking and finished with prize giving at the end of the day. Many eminent speakers, from a range of disciplines shared their knowledge and expertise on how to beat cancer. It was striking to learn that 42% of cancers are preventable and that in Scotland only 42% of people diagnosed with cancer survive for five years or more.

Miles Briggs MSP commented: “It was a privilege for me to chair the Scottish Cancer Conference 2017 and hear from so many dedicated professionals, who are working towards the same goal of beating cancer.

“I thank Cancer Research UK for hosting the event with the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Cancer.”
