ARRGmaggedon: Roller Girls bid fond farewell to Meadowbank

Edinburgh’s roller girls on the hunt for new home

Auld Reekie Roller Girls (ARRG), Edinburgh’s Roller Derby club, are to host a national tournament in the city on Saturday 25th November.  ARRGmageddon 2017, to be held at Meadowbank Sports Centre, will see ARRG’s third travel team, the All Star Rookies, battle it out with teams from Livingston, York and Durham.

This annual celebration brings together of some of the newest UK teams to celebrate the growth of grassroots roller derby, to showcase how it has inspired women of different ages and backgrounds to take up the sport; and to inspire more girls and women to get involved in sport.

Elin Andersson, who skates with ARRG and heads up the team of event volunteers, says: “We’re really excited to be hosting ARRGmageddon again this year. Last year’s was such a brilliant event, with thrilling games and a great atmosphere; we’re putting lots of hard work into making this tournament a fantastic experience for skaters and spectators alike.”

This will be ARRG’s last event at Meadowbank Sports Centre before it’s demolished and rebuilt. Having hosted every home game there since 2009, this closure is a blow to the sports club who are now on the hunt for another venue with capacity for their many dedicated fans.

But with a whole day of roller derby – plus stalls, home-baking, a kids’ corner, half-time games, food trucks, and a bar for the grown-ups – ARRG will say goodbye to Meadowbank in style!

All day roller derby event on Saturday 25th November at Meadowbank Sports Centre. Doors open 11am. Tickets £8 in advance from https://arrgmageddon2017.brownpapertickets.com/, £10 on door, all concessions available.
