Friends of Redhall School awarded £10,000

Edinburgh charity Friends of Redhall School has been awarded a £10,000 grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery.

The charity is run by parents and staff of Redhall School, which is for children of primary school age with complex, long term additional support needs, and is dedicated to fundraising and providing resources and social opportunities for the pupils.

The grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery will help provide interactive whiteboards for the school, allowing teachers to provide stimulating, relevant lessons which the pupils can engage in through a multi-sensory approach. The interactive nature of the boards means pupils can participate actively in learning activities and helps prevent disengagement.

Alison Nicolson, mum of Hazel and Guy, who both attend the school, said: “This grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery is fantastic and will make such a big difference to our kids. All the kids at Redhall have different needs and the interactive whiteboards allow them to learn in a way that engages them individually whilst encouraging social interaction such as turn-taking. I have two kids with additional support needs who attend Redhall and they will both benefit from this kind money. Thank you so much!” 

The Scottish Children’s Lottery was launched in October 2016 to raise money for children in Scotland, with proceeds helping to improve the lives of children right across the country and make a real difference to those who need it most.

Dorothy Fenwick is trustee of Chance to Study which operates as a society lottery under the Scottish Children’s Lottery. Chance to Study supports projects which aim to improve children’s education through their school years and into young adulthood, and ensure that all young people in Scotland have the opportunity to learn, develop and fulfil their potential.

Dorothy said: “Chance to Study believes that every child, no matter their background, should be able to maximise all the opportunities open to them during their school life, gaining the knowledge and experience that will help them take their place in society.
