Volunteer Scotland and SCVO have published a new collection of practical resources to help voluntary organisations and community groups navigate hostility and intolerance.

The resources are designed to help organisations think about how they can support the safety and wellbeing of volunteers, staff and the people they work with when facing difficult or challenging situations.

The collection covers six areas:

  • dialogue and conflict with service users
  • expert-led safety advice
  • internal conversations and team wellbeing
  • risk assessment and safety planning
  • specialist communications guidance
  • trauma-informed support.

OSCR was pleased to have the opportunity to review the resources during their development and provide feedback from a charity regulator perspective.

The resources may be useful to charities considering how they can support their people, manage risks and respond appropriately when difficult situations arise. You can find the resources in the Volunteer Safety section of Volunteer Scotland’s Knowledge Gateway.

The guidance also signposts to external sources of information and support. These links have been selected by Volunteer Scotland, and their inclusion does not indicate endorsement by OSCR.
