Robber makes of with £1,200 from local newsagent

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at the MM Stores on Boswall Parkway at around 7pm last night. A male entered the shop and assaulted the cashier and then escaped with a quantity of cash. . Officers are asking for anyone with information to contact them. The male is described as White with a pale complexion aged around 25-30, 6ft tall and was wearing a dark coloured hood top and dark bottoms.

Jamil Khan was the store workers and he has told the North Edinburgh News that he was frightened when the attack happened, he said “The man came in and asked for sweets, and as he turned away I saw him pull a piece of wood from his jacket and he hit me on the head with the wood. He then grabbed the cash machine and opened it an took the takings from today. He then left the shop and ran away.”

Store owner Mohammad Razzaq said “I am very disappointed this has happened. When I got the call I didn’t believe it so I rushed down to check that my staff were OK. We have at around £1,200 stolen, all off today’s takings“

Mr Razzaq has owned the shop for the last two years and has never had any problems during this time.
