The big winner of the night was the critically acclaimed documentary series Murder Case. Produced by Firecrest Films and directed by Matt Pinder, it took home both the Features & Factual Series and Best Director, Factual awards.
The series which followed the work of Police Scotland’s Major Investigations Team, debuted on the BBC Scotland channel in June with a strong TV performance. It has captivated viewers, becoming a BBC iPlayer success story with download requests reaching over 2 million. A second series has been recommissioned.
Other channel winners on the night were Real Kashmir FC, which picked up the Single Documentary award. Produced by Matchlight, the film followed the highs and lows of former Aberdeen, Rangers and Leeds United footballer Davie Robertson in his role as manager of the football club which exists against a background of chaos in Jammu and Kashmir.
The acclaimed Yes/No: Inside The IndyRef documentary topped the Specialist Factual category. Produced by STV Productions the three-part series offered a remarkable insight into the operations of the opposing campaigns during the 2014 independence referendum.
Commenting on the success, Steve Carson, Head of Multiplatform Commissioning at BBC Scotland says: “We’re delighted to have the channel’s content recognised in this way after only being on air for a few months.
“We wanted the channel to be surprising, outward looking and high quality and to come away with a clean sweep in our first awards is testament to the incredible creative talent that exists in Scotland.”
