National Isolation Strategy ‘key to combating loneliness’

The importance of embedding a national isolation strategy across all areas of government is key to alleviating loneliness in Scotland, says Contact the Elderly’s head of service in Scotland, Morna O’May (above).

Speaking in Edinburgh today at a Holyrood Insight conference on the progress being made to tackle social isolation, she will reinforce the need to work together to combat the problem afflicting rising numbers of Scots and the older generation in particular.

Mrs O’May will also highlight the work Contact the Elderly is doing in line with development of the Scottish government’s Older People’s Framework.

She said: “Loneliness is such an important and corrosive issue in the country today but it’s really heartening to see how we are moving towards a collaborative effort to reduce the extent of social isolation, something which is so badly affecting the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in Scotland.”
