MAKING CONNECTIONS would like to invite you to join our Autumn course at Royston Wardieburn Community Centre each Tuesday from 10am – 12pm starting 24th September.
Come and join members of staff from the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Open Learning as they share their research interests and areas of expertise.
Sessions will include a short presentation, and plenty of guided, lively discussion!
24th September: The Geology of Scotland and Hutton (1)
Dr. Angus Miller will introduce key features of Scotland’s natural landscape, and reflect on the work and influence of James Hutton.
1st October: The Politics of Scotland, Brexit and Independence (1)
8th October: The Politics of Scotland, Brexit, and Independence (2)
Dr. Coree Brown Swan will lead two sessions discussing the background to the current political situation in Scotland.
15th October: The Politics of Welfare
Richard Brodie will lead a session examining the politics of our welfare system including themes such as Universal Credit, poverty policy and lone parenthood.
22nd October: The Geology of Scotland and North Edinburgh (2)
Dr. Angus Miller will explore the geology of Edinburgh and consider how the urban city has adapted to its natural foundation.
29th October: Scottish Literature: Duality of Edinburgh (1)
Dr. Anya Clayworth will take us on a tour of Edinburgh, as seen through the eyes of authors RL Stevenson and Muriel Spark.
5th November: Scottish Literature: The Rose Street Poets (2)
Dr. Anya Clayworth and Rachael King will explore some of the poetry associated with the ‘Rose Street’ poets of the second half of the 20thC.
12th November: Group outing to The Enlightenment exhibition at the National Library of Scotland.
