Starbucks stores in Edinburgh donate total of £2000 to local charities

  • Starbucks in Waverley and Livingston have donated £1,000 each to local causes
  • Steps to Hope in Edinburgh and the West Lothian Foodbank were chosen by store teams

This summer, Starbucks stores in Edinburgh and Livingston have chosen local charities to receive a donation of £1,000 each, as part of Starbucks Summer of Giving campaign.

Summer can be a difficult time of year for many small charities – many see a decrease in those able to volunteer for them as people go away during the holiday period and financial donations are often reduced as a result. To help the local communities in and around Starbucks stores, the partners (employees) at 40 stores across the country have nominated local charities which are close to the store teams’ hearts, to receive a donation of £1,000.

The team at the Waverly Steps Starbucks nominated Edinburgh charity, Steps To Hope, to receive a £1,000 donation.

Steps to Hope supports the homeless and those suffering from addiction. The charity plans to use the donation to continue to provide important services such as support groups, awareness programmes and its signposting service for people suffering from addiction.

Steps to Hope Founder, Richard Roncero, said: “We are delighted with the generosity and support we have received from our local Starbucks store.

“Our charity supports the homeless and those suffering with addiction in the local area, so we would like to thank everyone at Starbucks for recognising the work we do and helping support us.”

The partners (employees) at the Starbucks store in Livingston nominated local charity West Lothian Foodbank to receive £1,000.

The West Lothian Foodbank works to provide three days’ nutritionally balanced food to local people who are in crisis. The foodbank offers a lot more than food alone, as the volunteers provide advice to visitors over a warm drink, and direct people to other charities and agencies.

Kathleen Neilly, General Manager at West Lothian Foodbank said: “It’s wonderful to be chosen as Starbucks Livingston’s summer charity. At this time of the year we are gearing up to harvest and Christmas and the £1,000 from Starbucks will make a huge difference as we have more transport costs.

“We are very blessed in West Lothian to have great support and we’re looking forward to future plans with Starbucks staff coming to help at the foodbank.”

Starbucks stores and their partners offer year-round support to local charities, working with Neighbourly, the giving platform, to connect Starbucks stores across the country with local charities.

From volunteering, to fundraising and offering store space for events. Over 750 small charities have benefited from their partnership with a local Starbucks store.
