Oor Wullie fans across the capital are being called upon to help out at a special event as Edinburgh bids farewell to Scotland’s favourite son.
As the summer of Oor Wullie draws to a close, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) is seeking volunteers to help out at Oor Wullie’s BIG Farewell Weekend from 13-15 September.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the free event at St Andrew Square next month to see all the life-sized and mini Edinburgh sculptures before they go to auction, and the charity needs enthusiastic volunteers to make it a fundraising success.
Various roles are available over the weekend, including welcoming, stewarding, selling merchandise and brochures and assisting the public.
Roslyn Neely, CEO of ECHC, said: “Oor Wullie has taken over the country this summer and we have been absolutely thrilled by how many people have got involved with the trail.
“We are now reaching out to Edinburgh’s Oor Wullie enthusiasts to seek volunteers for his BIG Farewell Weekend. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of one of the most popular public art trails Scotland has ever seen and we need help to make the final weekend as exciting and engaging as possible for the public.
“All funds raised from the trail help us to continue with our vital work of supporting children, young people and their families to have a positive hospital experience. We simply could not do what we do without the help of volunteers and we are incredibly grateful to anyone who can offer their support.”
Oor Wullie’s BIG Farewell Weekend will run from 9am-8pm on Friday 13 September and Saturday 14 September and 9am-5pm on Sunday 15 September.
If you would like to volunteer, please email rebecca.mcdonald@echcharity.org or call 0131 668 4949.
The event is free, but the charity is kindly asking attendees to fill out this form, so they know how many people to expect: forms.gle/4CMJGmABpm5W6SBa7
Oor Wullie HQ will remain open in St Andrew Square until the Farewell Weekend for those looking to purchase merchandise.
