LA Philharmonic to kick off the Festival in style at Tynecastle

The LA Phil brings a uniquely authentic gleam and glamour to the grandeur of Hollywood film scores in this year’s Opening Event, featuring classic movie music from the Golden Age of Hollywood by Korngold, Herrmann, Waxman and a selection from the best-loved film composer on the planet: John Williams.

In tonight’s epic family friendly concert, Gustavo Dudamel and his orchestra take over Tynecastle Park stadium for music from Star WarsHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s StoneE.T. and many more.

All tickets for the event, which is sponsored by Aberdeen Standard Investments, have been snapped up.

The concert will feature the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra performing an outdoor concert inspired by those so popular in their hometown venue, the Hollywood Bowl, and conducted by the legendary Gustavo Dudamel, Venezuelan-born Music and Artistic Director at LA Phil, one of the most distinguished and popular conductors of 21st century.  

The rich programme of music will comprise of a selection from Hollywood’s Golden Age films and blockbusters scored by one of Hollywood’s most popular composers, John Williams. It will include:

Erich Korngold: March of the Merry Men (from The Adventures of RobinHood)

John Williams: Shark Cage Fugue/Out to Sea (Jaws)

Bernard Herrmann: Vertigo suite

John Williams: Hedwig’s Theme (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone)

John Williams: Fawkes the Phoenix (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets)

Steiner: Suite from Casablanca 

John Williams: Olympic fanfare and theme

Waxman: Sunset Boulevard suite

John Williams: Jurassic Park theme

John Williams: Adventures on Earth (from E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial)

Henry Mancini: Theme from The Pink Panther

John Williams: Throne Room and Finale (Star Wars)

ENCORE

John Williams: The Imperial March (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back)

Safety and security

Your safety and security at International Festival events is of the upmost importance. Please note that bags will be subject to security searches and you should not bring bags larger than 30cm x 30cm x 15cm. There is no cloakroom to store belongings.

The following items are prohibited in the stadium: alcohol, glass, animals (except registered assistance animals), scissors, flares, fireworks, illegal substances, herbal/legal highs or nitrous oxide, offensive weapons (such as knives with long blades), laser pens, megaphones and air horns.

Please make yourself familiar with Run, Hide, Tell to be aware of how to protect yourself if the need arises.

Food and drink

Concession stands offering food, drink and snacks are available throughout the stadium from 5.30pm.
