Fishing for a new career?

Edinburgh Leisure on the search for unqualified individuals to train as swim teachers

Looking for a new challenge and career? Edinburgh Leisure is on the search for individuals, with a passion for swimming, to train as swim teachers.

Angela McCowan, Aquatics Development Manager at Edinburgh Leisure explained:  “As the biggest provider of sports coaching across the city, we’re looking for individuals from all walks of life, with a passion for swimming, who want to join us and enthuse children with a key life skill.

“The individuals might be senior pupils still at school, students, parents, retired people or in a career looking for a change.

“Individuals will receive first-class, on-the-job training and support to achieve the newly developed Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ). We even pay for the training and exam fees, on full pay.”

The training is for a fixed term of six-months, at which time it is anticipated that individuals will have achieved the SSTQ, and will be able to move into a new swim teacher role with Edinburgh Leisure.

Flexible hours are on offer, at a minimum of 10 hours per week at various locations across Edinburgh at a starting pay of £9 per hour. Once qualified, the pay will increase. Also on offer is one of the best rewards packages in the business, with generous pension, holidays, and free membership to all of Edinburgh Leisure venues.

Interested individuals should apply on the Edinburgh Leisure jobs portal by Sunday, 18 August 2019 and be available to attend an assessment centre on Monday, 26 August 2019.

Individuals accepted on the programme will be required to be available for set training dates during the six-month period.  A requirement of an Edinburgh Leisure swim teacher is to obtain their National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, which is part of the training programme. More details can be found on the jobs’ portal.
