Finnegans Wake, on Victoria Street, is hosting a cake sale and live music night in aid of the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), on Sunday (30thJune).
From 7pm there will be freshly baked cakes galore available for customers to buy, before they settle down to sweet sounds of singer songwriter, Richard Jenkins, followed by acoustic covers duo, HiFi, at 9.30pm.
CRY is a charity that funds support, screening and research to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death and it is particularly important to the team at Finnegans Wake after they lost their friend and colleague, Ben Forsyth, in July last year.
Ben was a keen cyclist and was only 20 years old when he tragically died of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) – a progressive and incurable disease of the heart muscles. CRY helped Ben cope with his illness when he was originally diagnosed in 2015 and it continues to support his family.
The pub has already raised over £600 for the charity through its Just Giving page and it plans to keep supporting CRY through various fundraisers throughout the year.
Dillon Plahé, General Manager of Finnegans Wake, said: “It is always heart breaking to lose a friend, but when they are so young, with so much more to give the world, it is all the more tragic.
“We all remember Ben so fondly and it is a real privilege not only to hold a fundraiser in his honour, but also to dedicate an evening to remembering him.
“Everyone on the team has jumped at the chance to bake a cake for the event, so hopefully there will be some real goodies available for people to enjoy, while raising money for a good cause at the same time. I’m really looking forward to it!”
