Nominations now open to celebrate the achievements of local councillors

The Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) and CCLA are proud to launch the second annual Councillor Awards: showcasing the best of local government for the second year running.

The Councillor Awards are the only national awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of individual councillors across Scotland.

Award categories for 2019 include Innovation and Digital and Champion for Education alongside the coveted Leader of the Year and New Councillor of the Year awards. This year’s ceremony will take place from 6  -9pm on Thursday 28th November at Edinburgh City Chambers.

Following the overwhelming success of the 2018 Awards, nominations are now officially open until early September with the shortlist due to be unveiled in October.

Nominations can be made by any member of the public who would like to recognise a councillor in their area doing outstanding work for their community. The winners will be decided by a panel of judges and announced on the night.

This year’s awards are made possible thanks to the generous support of founding sponsors charity fund maagers  CCLA.

Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive of LGiU Scotland, said: “For the second year running, we are proud to open nominations for the Councillor Awards and to once again be honouring the hard work of councillors across Scotland.

“We were truly inspired by the calibre of the nominations we received last year. These councillors are the ones who truly go above and beyond for their communities and so often do not receive any recognition in return. That is why we are calling on all members of the public to come together to nominate their local government heroes.

“We look forward to receiving a record number of nominations again this year and continuing to showcase the important work of our councillors across Scotland.”
