The number of patients on the urgent waiting list for a urology operation at the Edinburgh Western General Urology Hub has increased from 363 at 30 June 2018 to 465 at 31 March 2019, the latest data available.
The total number on the waiting list is now 933 patients, an increase from 922 for the quarter ending 30 June 2018.
Waiting times for urgent urology treatments are now a median waiting time of 63 days and for routine operations a median waiting time of 130 days. This compares to a median waiting time of 65 days for all urology operations at 30 June 2018.
Urology is a branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs.
Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative Lothian MSP, said: “Having 465 patients in urgent need of a Urology operation is deeply worrying and this number needs to be substantially reduced.
“I welcome the additional funding to improve services, but waits should never have been allowed to get this long.
“This is yet another area of our health service where SNP mismanagement of NHS Scotland’s workforce over the last decade has meant that Scottish people suffer as a consequence.”
