Local charity Edinburgh School Uniform Bank has been awarded a £2,000 grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery.
The Edinburgh charity provides free school uniforms to families that are experiencing financial hardship, including those affected by domestic violence, those on very low incomes or where children are acting as young carers.
The funding from the Scottish Children’s Lottery will help enable the charity to supply uniforms, stationery and other essentials to every child referred, helping them walk into school with their heads held high and taking some of the stress away from parents and carers.
Julia Grindley, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Edinburgh School Uniform Bank, said: “We are delighted to receive this grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery. The number of children being referred to us is soaring, and this grant gives us a major boost to continue our work. Every child and teenager deserves dignity and a chance to fit in with their peers.”
The Scottish Children’s Lottery was launched in October 2016 to raise money for children in Scotland, with proceeds helping to improve the lives of children right across the country and make a real difference to those who need it most.
Dorothy Fenwick is trustee of Chance to Study which operates as a society lottery under the Scottish Children’s Lottery. Chance to Study supports projects which aim to improve children’s education through their school years and into young adulthood, and ensure that all young people in Scotland have the opportunity to learn, develop and fulfil their potential.
Dorothy said: “Chance to Study believes that every child, no matter their background, should be able to maximise all the opportunities open to them during their school life, gaining the knowledge and experience that will help them take their place in society.
“I am delighted that this grant will support the valuable work of Edinburgh School Uniform Bank. Thank you to those who play the Scottish Children’s Lottery, you are helping to support the great work that our charities undertake.”
