Sports clubs offered ALDI funding boost

Applications are now open for the ALDI Scottish Sports Fund, with clubs located across Lothians and Scottish Borders invited to apply for a share of £50,000.

Now in its third year, the ALDI Scottish Sports Fund aims to help people of all ages take part in physical activity within their local communities by giving clubs the chance to secure up to £500 funding. Last year 115 clubs around Scotland shared £50,000, helping to improve community access to sports across the country.

Last year, the ALDI Scottish Sports Fund supported several clubs across the Lothians and Scottish Borders, including Galashiels Amateur Swimming Club, Gullane Athletic AFC, Duns Tennis Club and Karele Equine. This year, ALDI hopes to help even more clubs in the region as awareness of the ALDI Scottish Sports Fund continues to grow.

The ALDI Scottish Sports Fund is open to any sporting organisation in Scotland with registered charity status, from rugby clubs to after school groups and everything in between. Groups can apply for funding for a wide range of purposes, including new strips and equipment or put towards the cost of training facilities and coaching.

Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director, ALDI Scotland said: “ALDI’s support and commitment to Scottish sports clubs is hugely important to supporting local communities. This year, we hope to be able to help even more clubs across the country. Applications are now open for clubs based across the Lothians and Scottish Borders. It’s a great opportunity not to be missed!”

“Since launching in 2016, over 160 clubs across Scotland have benefitted from a funding boost of more than £90,000. Scottish Sport Fund is our way of giving sports clubs a helping hand to continue their great work and making a difference in the local area.”

Team GB Athlete, Eve Muirhead, said: “ALDI’s continued efforts to help provide sports clubs in Scotland with invaluable financial support is so important for future generations. Sport in local communities is a driving force in nurturing potential and every penny counts for these organisations.

“Whether it’s put towards buying kit and equipment, or funding transport to competitions, it makes the world of difference to local sports clubs and their overall performance.”

Sports clubs located across the Lothians and Scottish borders have until Monday 1 October to apply for up to £500 funding. Applications can be made viawww.aldi.co.uk/scottishsportsfund

All applications will be considered by the ALDI judging panel and entrants will be notified of the outcome of their funding application within four to six weeks from the region’s deadline.
