The NEN blog passed a milestone earlier today when our 10,000th post was published.
The very first post appeared on January 19th, 2011 and read:
Hello, and welcome to the brand new NEN blog.
For those of you not already familiar with the newspaper, we are a local community paper serving the North Edinburgh community. We’ve been here for over thirty years.
This blog, along with our new Facebook page and Twitter stream, represents our first foray into the world of social media. We really want to encourage more participation, more questions and ideas from the North Edinburgh community – both online and offline – and hope that these new tools will help us to do that.
We already have a good website, where you can always find the latest edition of the printed newspaper. The blog won’t be replacing that, but will instead be there to show people the latest news about the area, and also to help us cover the current funding crisis we are facing as an organisation.
Above all, we want to include your input on the blog – be it ideas for stories, comments, pictures and events. So get in touch!

Teengers face Court following Leith death
Two men will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today following the death of a man in Leith in the early hours of New Years Day. Thirty year old Shaun Woodburn died in hospital following an altercation near Gladstones in Great Junction Street.
Two teenage men aged 16 and 18 were arrested in connection with the incident and are expected to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court later today.
Detective Inspector Graham Grant said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has sadly passed away. A murder inquiry is now being carried out and there will continue to be a police presence in Leith as we conduct our investigation and provide support to the local community following these tragic events.”
