City rivals unite to support Cash for Kids

The capital’s two footballing giants are putting aside their old rivalry to help thousands of young people in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife. Both Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian  are urging their fans to dig out their old and unused clothing in a major recycling drive.

The collection will help raise vital funds for Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids, which supports children who are disadvantaged through poverty, sickness or disability.

On 31st March, Hibs fans are being asked to bring any unwanted clothes and shoes to a special match-day collection ahead of the Hibs v Partick Thistle game, while Hearts fans will get the opportunity to help on 7th April ahead of the Hearts v Aberdeen match.

Hibs captain, David Gray, said: “The club are happy to be backing the recycling drive, and hopefully we can help make a difference to those who unfortunately are without the basics of proper clothes. Supporters can make a difference so we would encourage them bring something they can donate to the match against Partick Thistle.”

A spokesperson for Heart of Midlothian Football Club added: “Heart of Midlothian Football Club is proud to support this Cash for Kids initiative.

“Edinburgh football fans are among the most generous in Scottish football, and we hope our supporters will support this worthwhile cause and donate as much of their old clothing as possible so that disadvantaged children can reap the benefits.

Emma Kemp, Charity Manager at Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids, commented: “2017 was a record breaking year for Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids. We helped more children and young people than ever before, and that’s thanks to the kindness of people and organisations across the east of Scotland.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that both Hibs and Hearts have offered to play their part in helping to transform the lives of local young people. Our recycling points are located throughout Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife, but bringing them straight to the fans on match days will provide a real boost and help to make a difference to so many lives.”
