More than 20,500 children across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife will wake up to a Christmas present, thanks to the generosity of thousands of people throughout the region. This year’s Mission Christmas campaign, organised by Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids, has broken new records, with £1.1 million raised in gift and cash donations over the last six weeks.
The annual fundraising and gift drive aims to ensure that every single child in the region, that would otherwise go without, receives a present on Christmas Day. Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids works with grassroots organisations, social workers, head teachers and the emergency services, who are encouraged to nominate families in crisis to be supported by the appeal.
The record-breaking haul means that 2,500 more young people will be helped this year, compared to 2016’s campaign.
Emma Kemp, Charity Manager at Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids, said: “We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of businesses and individuals throughout Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife. We want to do our bit to help as many young people as possible, which is incredibly challenging, but everyone has truly embraced the real spirit of the season and stepped up to help in any way they can.
“Whether it was individual gifts, cash donations or assistance collecting and sorting items, I want to say thank you to everyone who helped. You can be proud to know that your act of kindness will help to put a smile on the face of thousands of children throughout our region.”
