MSP welcomes unification of bowel cancer charities

Miles Briggs, Lothian MSP and the Shadow Health Secretary, is welcoming the news that the UK’s two leading bowel cancer charities, Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer, have announced they are uniting to form a new single charity.

The new charity will be led by Deborah Alsina MBE and its new name and brand will be unveiled next year. Miles Briggs tabled a Parliamentary motion about the charities’ merger yesterday.

The Conservative MSP, who is also a Co-Convenor of the Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Cancer, said: “ The pooling of resources and expertise by these two cancer charities has the potential to create a new, stronger and even more dynamic cancer charity dedicated to increasing bowel cancer survival rates in Scotland and the UK.

“ I look forward to working closely with the new charity in 2018 and wish all its staff and supporters every success as we look to reduce the impact of what is the second biggest cause of cancer deaths in the UK.”
