Seasons greetings from Wardie Bay Beachwatch

I am extremely grateful to all of you who came to Wardie Bay this year to help clear it up for the sake of our local creatures & neighbours but also to contribute to the crucial MCS data which we know to be helping the case against marine litter at policy level (writes KAREN BATES).

I believe it has been an excellent year; bringing people together locally and from further afield, caring for this shore and generally mucking in to make a difference. Our Government has supported us locally and nationally (Scotland), for which we can be very thankful, positive and hopeful.
I’m just about to go away for a festive break and will be back at the end of the year to consolidate plans for the New Year. I sincerely apologise for not arranging a Christmas drinks. It really would have been lovely. I just couldn’t find a time when it would be possible. I’m so sorry. Can we do it in the New Year?
Yes, please all come to a gathering in the New Year to talk about the way forward, date TBC. A few people have been in touch showing serious interest in helping to nurture Wardie Bay. I would like to see what everyone thinks or would like to see happen at a get together in January.
The fantastic news is that we really made a dent in the waste we found this year. At the beginning of 2017 it was horrendous. Lately we know that it’s the very small stuff we need to be mindful of and to do our best to eradicate what we can; on the beach yes, but also at source, through our own behaviour change as consumers but also by engaging with campaigns to phase-out single-use plastic and helping to spread the word.
I look forward to seeing all new friends made in 2018. ❄
With much love to all and deepest thanks.
Karen 💙
