WESTMINSTER’S Scottish Affairs Committee conclude their inquiry into sustainable employment on Tuesday, when they will hear from the author of the Taylor review on modern working practices and UK ministers.
In the first session, the Committee will speak to Matthew Taylor, author of The Taylor Review. Published in June 2017, the independent report considered the impact of new employment practices on worker rights, and made recommended several changes to employment rules. The session will examine the main recommendations of the report and how the relationship between employers and employees has changed, particularly given the growth of zero hours contracts and self-employment.
The second session features Margot James MP, Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility, and Damian Hinds MP, Minister of State for Employment. It will focus on the Government’s overall strategy for creating high quality employment and protecting workers from unfair employment practices. It will also assess the impact of the current devolution settlement on providing unemployment support, where responsibility is shared by the UK and Scottish Government.
