The festival is a collaboration between Edinburgh-based PR and events company Good Thinking and the Assembly Rooms, one of the City of Edinburgh Council’s landmark cultural venues. To launch the festival the organisers have partnered with Yellow Kite, one of the UK’s leading publishers of wellbeing books including authors Dr Hazel Wallace (The Food Medic), Jody Shield, Shona Vertue and Finlay Wilson. Other partners include Edinburgh-based studio Tribe Yoga, Pure Gym, Nuffield Health and lululemon.
Angela Robertson, Director, Good Thinking, said: “Edinburgh is home to a large and growing wellbeing community, from amazing yoga teachers to healthy food entrepreneurs. The festival aims to bring this community together and create something completely new at a time when our thoughts turn to getting fit and feeling better.”
Councillor Donald Wilson, Culture and Communities Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “I am delighted to welcome the Edinburgh Wellbeing Festival to the Council’s beautiful Assembly Rooms. When we host major sporting and fitness events they inspire our people to take up physical activity and adopt a healthier lifestyle. I’m a keen runner myself, and I’ve experienced the challenges of combining the right diet with the right exercise, and how much they contribute to feeling good.”
Liz Gough, Publisher, Yellow Kite, said: “The inaugural Edinburgh Wellbeing Festival shows what a strong commitment Scotland is making in terms of encouraging people to improve their health and wellbeing – and it’s really exciting to see the launch of this new live event to support that. Yellow Kite is immensely proud to be part of the festival and to have a range of authors, from Scotland and beyond, appearing over the weekend.”
