Please see below information on an event two colleagues and I are organising to support a charity that we are very passionate about (writes Napier University’s Claire Biggar).
Rock2Recovery (R2R) is charity based in England who support Ex Armed Forces Personnel and their families who are suffering from PTSD. We first met the co-founders of R2R (Jamie Sanderson and Jason Fox) in April when they spoke at an event we hosted at the university to highlight the effects of PTSD on Ex Armed Forces personnel (http://www.napier.ac.uk/
Armed Forces veterans told how life on the frontline left a legacy of flashbacks, acute anxiety and depression at a special event hosted by Edinburgh Napier University.

Both Jamie and Foxy (from the Channel 4 Series SAS: Who Dares Wins) spoke openly about their experiences of PTSD and how it has effected them on civi street and why they set up R2R to help others. Since the event in April, word spread in Scotland of the tailored support they offerand they have now operated 6 clinics in Edinburgh (from Edinburgh Napier University Sighthill Campus) providing continuing support to up to 10 Ex Service Personnel on a monthly basis. What is so valuable about the support is it is tailored specifically to the individual and R2R also work with the family members of those suffering PTSD to give them the skills to be able to support their partner/family member.
R2R very much work with individuals to help them find their “rock” to help them cope with PTSD in the long term and for Jamie music is his rock. We are hosting a music event on 2nd November in the Voodoo Rooms to help raise funds for R2R to allow them to spread their reach in Scotland to support other Ex Armed Forces personnel and their families and also raise the awareness of the R2R service. The evening will showcase four Edinburgh Napier University student bands from our Music School and a solo artist called Richard Kerr who is ex service himself.
Please support this event by coming along and highlighting the event to your friends, family, colleagues and contacts;www.rock2recovery.eventbrite.
